Tips For Keeping Your Children Safe In Public

At Miracle Skate, we take pride in providing a clean, fun and safe environment for the entire family, and this includes your children, but not everyone wants to protect your children like we do. So, we’ve put together a short list of tips that’ll help with keeping your children safe in public places with large crowds.

Hand their hand. – Don’t walk ahead of small children that can not keep up. Remember, if only takes a second for a toddler to wander away.

Stranger danger. – Make sure your children know not to walk away with strangers. This will cut down on the chances of your child walking away with someone they don’t know.

Make sure they know who they are. – When your child is old enough to understand, practice their full name, address and phone number with them to ensure that if they ever needed help that they could be helped.

Keep an eye on them. – Never leave a child unsupervised in a public place. This includes play areas and even at roller skating rinks, even if they’re with other children. This is a recipe for disaster.

Have a family safe spot. – In crowded places, it’s a good idea to have a designated safe place to gather if the family gets separated. Make sure your kiddo knows where the safe place is and to go there if they get lost.

Following these steps will help with keeping your children safe while having fun at our facility and later in life.

Skate Fitness Tips for Your 2017 Workout

Is getting in shape one of your New Year’s resolutions? Miracle Skate can help. Skating is a great way for families in Madera to stay active and have fun. Here’s how you can make your skating fitness routine even better!

Health Benefits of Roller-Skating

If you’ve ever skated before, you know it’s a good exercise for your legs, glutes, and core. After all, those sore muscles didn’t just appear! But roller-skating is also one of the best exercises you can do for heart health. Check out these quick facts about skating fitness:

  • Skating 1 hour per week can burn 600 calories
  • Skating includes most muscle groups, including the arms
  • Skating builds muscle strength and endurance
  • Skating causes 50% less joint stress than running
  • Skating is safer than playgrounds, biking, and most organized sports

How to Improve Skate Fitness

Want to take your roller-skating workout to the next level? Here are our favorite tips!

  1. girl stretchingStretch it out. You can lower the risk of injury and improve your skating workout by doing some quick quad, calf, hamstring, hip, and glute stretches before hitting the rink.
  2. Stay moving. Gliding doesn’t burn calories. To make the most of your skating workout, skate actively. Zig-zag, skate backwards, and work your arms as you skate.
  3. Make it harder. Ankle weights are a great way to increase the difficulty of your workout. Choose weights that velcro closed so you don’t lose them (and cause a pileup).

Falling in Love with Skating

Mini pumpkinsPumpkin lattes. Pumpkin pies. Pumpkin cheesecake. Sweaters. Jackets. Scarves. It’s officially Fall!

We love fall – the crisp air and finally getting to pull out our favorite jackets and boots. What else is there to love about fall? How about falling in love with a new past time or sport – roller skating! While fall is well known as the season of football, it’s also a great season to join us at Miracle Skate to try out your skills at the skating rink.

Things to Love About Skating

  1. It’s great exercise. You can burn almost 600 calories while skating for just one hour! Not only that, but roller skating has also been endorsed by the American Heart Association as a heart healthy activity.
  2. It’s the original social network. Roller skating started out as the center of the social scene. It’s where people came together to spend an afternoon together joking, playing, and simply enjoying the time spent in an engaging activity. Put down the screens and try it out for yourself.
  3. It’s a year round sport. Fall is a great time to learn to roller skate – but roller skating is a great sport year round! It’s one of our favorite things about skating: no matter the weather, the season, or the time of day, it’s a great time to go roller skating.
  4. Everyone can skate. Young or old. Short or tall. Everyone can be a great roller skater. All it takes is a little practice and you’ll be whizzing around the facility in no time.

It’s fall – but don’t fall!

You don’t have to worry about learning to fall while learning to skate this fall (pun intended) because we have handy skate mates that give you the extra help you need to be confident your first time out on the skating floor.

Join us at Miracle Skate in Madera for a great night skating with friends and family!

Why Sign Up for Kids Skate Free?

There used to be a time when parents flashed the flood lights or rang a school bell to get their kids to go inside for dinner, now you have to disconnect the wifi, “lose the remotes” and refuse to reheat dinner for them. With all the technology around us, it’s hard to get them active and exercising these days. Here at Miracle Skate, we believe exercise should be fun. We want to encourage kids to unplug and unwind with friends and family here at the rink.

Miracle Skate is proud to say that we are part of a program called Kids Skate Free. This program is designed to promote kids to be active and exercise in a way that excites them by offering free passes to participating skating rinks! Once you sign up, each child (up to four per family) will receive two passes to use each week here at Miracle Skate. This means that if they own their own KidsSkateFree.comskates, their skating day is totally free! But don’t worry if you don’t have your own skates, we have both quads and inline (rollerblades) available to rent during your time with us. This program is offered to kids 12 and under, but don’t let that stop you from having a family fun outing! Not sure what days they can be use? We make it simple to find out -simply check out our hours and location page.

Roller skating is a fun way to get exercise, burn calories, and improve balance and flexibility. Its easy and fun to learn at every age. We hope to see you and your family here at Miracle Skate in Madera, CA soon, so sign up for your free skate passes today!

Rollerskating: Keeping Your Heart Happy in More Ways Than One

We’ve all heard that rollerskating has it’s health benefits, but do you REALLY know just how good those laps around the rink are for you? Skating has fantastic aerobic and cardiovascular benefits that’s not known to many. Your favorite childhood activity could be your heart and joints’ saving grace.

Benefits of Skating

According to Dr. Carl Foster, associate professor of medicine at the University of Wisconsin Medical School, skating as a form of exercise is as beneficial as running or cycling. The best part about it? With skating there’s no padding shorts needed for cycling.

• Roller skating is equal to jogging in terms of health benefits and calorie consumption, strength happy heartdevelopment, and reduction of body fat.

• Did you know? Roller skating is recognized AND recommended by the American Heart Association (AHA) as an aerobic fitness sport.

• A mere hour of brisk roller skating burns 330 calories for a roughly 140-pound person. If that same person were to roller skate vigorously, he/she will burn up to 590 calories in a one hour!

• Skating at 6 mph burns 350 calories while skating at 10 mph burns 600.

• Skating at a steady, comfortable rate for a period of 30 minutes expends 285 calories and produces a heart rate of ~148 beats per minute.

• A study conducted at the University of Massachusetts determined in-line skating causes less than 50 percent of the impact shock to joints compared to running.

•Want to get the all the benefits aerobics can offer? Roller skate one day, bicycle another, and swim or run on another.
