Miracle Skate will be at Hmong International New Year

Hmong International New YearHmong International New Year Fresno 2014 will be taking place this year on December 26 to January 1 at the Big Fresno Fairgrounds, which is also home to Miracle Skate Fresno! The event will be open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with Miracle Skate will be offering hourly skate sessions throughout the event.

Billed as the “Largest Hmong New Year Celebration in the world” the Hmong New Year celebration is a cultural tradition that takes place annually and includes Hmong dress in traditional clothing and enjoyment of Hmong traditional foods, dance, music, and other forms of entertainment. Hmong New Year celebrations have Hmong ethnic traditions and culture, and also serve to educate those who have interest in Hmong tradition.

The Fresno event is expected to attract as many as 100,000 people who in addition to enjoying the traditional foods of egg rolls, fried pork, Hmong sausage, and sample the entrants for the title of best papaya salad can shop for jewelry, clothing, and hats. There will also be a mixed martial arts showcase, dance competitions and the crowning of Miss Hmong International 2014.

The traditional reason for the celebration is to celebrate a successful year of farming and welcome the New Year, Hmong youth however find the event a great way to socialize, make new friends and even meet a potential spouse.

Tickets to enter the event are four dollars which is used to offset the costs of the venue, security, and additional resources to run the event. Children under five, senior citizens, and active military as well as veterans are admitted for free.
